SAN ANTONIO — Sixteen years ago, Brad Vehrs and Erik Duron were working entry-level jobs at bars across San Antonio, greeting customers at the door, hauling kegs and learning every aspect of the hospitality business.
As the years passed, both climbed the ranks to become general managers, but one shared dream never faded: owning a bar of their own.
Last year, that dream became reality.
Joining forces with friend and investor Donnie Ferguson, the trio opened The Roxbury in the former Cross Eyed Seagull location at 19141 Stone Oak Parkway, transforming the longtime neighborhood space into a modern sports bar designed for everything from championship games to casual nights out.
The renovations are immediately noticeable. A stylish loft with comfortable seating overlooks the main dining area, while 22 large-screen televisions ensure there’s not a bad seat in the house when the big game is on. Outside, a spacious patio with additional televisions provides another inviting place to gather, especially during cooler evenings.
That game-day atmosphere was on full display during a recent visit as fans packed the restaurant to watch Mexico compete in a World Cup match. Jerseys in green, white and red filled the room, and the excitement only grew louder as Mexico rolled to a convincing 3-0 victory over Czechia. Every goal was met with cheers, high-fives and an energy that showcased exactly what the owners envisioned when creating the venue.
The menu goes beyond traditional sports bar offerings. Guests can choose from flavorful chicken and steak skewers, the restaurant’s signature pizza grilled cheese, hearty burgers, wings, loaded nachos and a variety of other crowd-pleasing favorites.
Behind the bar, an extensive drink selection pairs with ice-cold beer, making it easy to settle in for an afternoon game or an evening with friends.
For Vehrs and Duron, The Roxbury represents more than a new business—it is the culmination of years spent learning the industry from the ground up. Their journey from carrying kegs to owning one of Stone Oak’s newest gathering places is reflected in the welcoming atmosphere they’ve created.
Whether you’re looking to catch the next big sporting event, enjoy dinner with friends or simply unwind with a cold drink on the patio, The Roxbury has quickly established itself as a destination worth visiting in North San Antonio.
