SAN ANTONIO — Reagan High School’s Kate Bingham has verbally committed to Stephen F. Austin University to play soccer. Bingham, a 2 sport star at Reagan will graduate in the class of 2027.
Bingham said, “I feel like SFA is a great fit for me, and I look forward to reuniting with Coach Ashley, who was formerly my club coach.I think it’s a great fit for me both sports wise and academically.I’m excited for the opportunity.”
At a school known for academic excellence and competitive athletics, Reagan High School rising senior Kate Bingham has quietly established herself as one of the campus’s most versatile student-athletes.
Whether she’s battling for rebounds on the basketball court or creating scoring opportunities on the soccer field, Bingham has become a familiar presence for the Rattlers, demonstrating the kind of dedication and work ethic that coaches value and teammates respect.
Balancing two varsity sports is no easy task, but Bingham has embraced the challenge.
During the past basketball season, the then junior guard emerged as one of Reagan’s most reliable performers. Her breakout moments came during district play, where she helped lead the Rattlers through one of the program’s most successful seasons in recent years.
One of her most memorable performances came against Churchill, when she scored 25 points, added eight rebounds, and seven assists in a key victory that helped propel Reagan back into the postseason for the first time in three years. The effort earned her recognition as the Express-News Girls Basketball Player of the Week.
Just weeks earlier, Bingham delivered another standout performance, scoring 20 points in a decisive victory over Brandeis as Reagan solidified its playoff position.
While basketball has brought much of the recent attention, it is only half of Bingham’s athletic story.
On the soccer field, she has contributed to a Reagan program that consistently competes among the area’s top teams. Playing for the varsity squad while also competing at the club level, Bingham has demonstrated the versatility required to succeed in multiple sports at a high level.
Coaches often point to athletes like Bingham as examples of the benefits of year-round competition. The conditioning, discipline, and leadership developed in one sport frequently translate into success in another.
At Reagan, those qualities are especially valued.
The North East ISD campus has built a reputation as one of the region’s premier high schools, combining rigorous academics with a strong tradition of extracurricular achievement. Students are expected to excel both inside and outside the classroom, and Bingham represents that balance.
Friends and teammates describe her as competitive but approachable, focused but supportive. Those characteristics have helped her earn leadership roles and the trust of coaches across multiple programs.
As she enters her senior year, expectations will undoubtedly grow.
For Reagan basketball, she will be counted on to help build upon the program’s recent resurgence. For soccer, she will be expected to continue contributing to a team with postseason aspirations. And for younger athletes, she will serve as an example of what commitment and perseverance can accomplish.
For now, Bingham remains focused on the same approach that has defined her career so far: work hard, support teammates, and continue improving.
Those goals may seem simple, but they have helped transform a talented athlete into one of Reagan High School’s emerging leaders.
In a school filled with high achievers, Kate Bingham is proving that success is not defined by a single sport or a single season. It is built through consistency, determination, and a willingness to compete wherever the opportunity arises.
As her high school career continues, the Reagan community will be watching closely to see what she accomplishes next.
