SAN ANTONIO — After spending 36 years in the automotive repair industry and preparing for retirement, Donte Marotta thought he was ready to close one chapter of his life and begin another.
Instead, an unexpected opportunity and what he describes as a calling from God led him to launch a new business venture on San Antonio’s North Side.
Marotta, whose career included working with major automotive brands such as Chrysler and Land Rover, was making plans to retire when a conversation with a neighbor changed everything.
After sharing his retirement plans, Marotta’s neighbor presented him with an opportunity he couldn’t pass up — the chance to purchase an automotive repair facility on Bitters Road, along with additional surrounding property that would allow for future expansion.
That opportunity became the foundation for Prestige Luxury Automotive.
“I was ready to retire,” Marotta said. “But this opportunity came along, and I felt like it was where I was supposed to be.”
Throughout his career, Marotta gained extensive experience working on a wide variety of vehicles and advancing through the ranks of the automotive industry. His time with Chrysler even gave him the opportunity to meet legendary automotive executive Lee Iacocca, whose leadership helped reshape the American auto industry during the 1980s.
Today, Marotta is bringing that knowledge and experience to his own business.
“It’s exciting, but it’s also a challenge,” he said. “Starting your own operation after working for other companies for so many years is a different experience, but it’s one I’m enjoying.”
One feature Marotta believes distinguishes Prestige Luxury Automotive from many competitors is its commitment to offering free diagnostic testing. Many repair facilities charge customers between $150 and $200 simply to diagnose a problem before repairs begin.
“We want people to know what’s wrong with their vehicle before they have to make a decision,” Marotta said. “Offering free diagnostics is one way we can help customers and build trust.”
For Marotta, however, the business is about more than automotive repair.
Faith plays a central role in his life and in the way he approaches business. Shortly after purchasing the property, he was clearing brush and preparing the back lots for maintenance when he made a discovery that left a lasting impression.
Buried deep in the grass was a gold cross that appeared to have been there for years.
For Marotta, the discovery carried a deeper meaning.
“I took it as a sign from God that I was on the right path,” he said.
As Prestige Luxury Automotive continues to grow, Marotta hopes to combine decades of industry expertise with a customer-focused approach rooted in honesty, service and faith.
What began as a retirement plan has instead become a new mission — one that Marotta believes was meant to happen.
